    Prices of Kerbs in Nigeria

The Nigerian market is filled with several kinds of kerb stones. They are differentiated by the materials used and the sizes of the stones.

We understand how difficult it will be trying to find out the prices of these stones. This is why we took it on ourselves to survey the market for the types and prices of kerb stones. After our research, we came up with the list below:

    • Kerb stone (500 x 280 x 90) per unit: N1,000 – N1,200
    • Kerb stone (500 x 300 x 100) per unit: N1,100 – N1,500
    • Kerb stone (500 x 350 x 120) per unit: N1,600 – N1,800
    • Concrete kerb stones: N400 – N600
    • Buffalocrete kerbs: N750 – N900
    • Flower kerbs: N500 – N700

Note that these prices can change depending on several factors. Some of these factors include the vendor that you patronize, your location, and the prevalent market forces. Now, let’s look at other important information about kerbs.

Types of Kerbs and their uses

We have already told you about some of the uses of kerbs. In this section, we will discuss the different types of kerbs and their specific uses. Check them out below:

    Mountable kerbs

These kerbs are also referred to as low kerbs. They help to keep drivers within traffic lanes with very little difficulty. Mountable kerbs are just 10 centimeters high. Because of this, vehicles can climb over them easily. They are laid at channelization schemes and medians as well as longitudinal drainages.

    Semi-barrier kerbs

These kerbs are mostly used in zones where there is very high human traffic. They stand about 15 centimeters above the edge of the pavement. You can use semi-barrier kerbs to prevent trespassing of human and vehicular traffic. It is possible to drive over these kerbs, however, drivers will do it with a lot of difficulties.

    Submerged kerbs

Submerged kerbs are best for rural roads. This is because they help to protect pavement edges. They are also used for lateral confinement and provide the pavement with stability.

    Extruded kerbs

This kind of kerb is used on long and straight highways. They are mostly made from concrete and are laid using a slip-form paver maker. These kerbs are used to line the edges of the highways to prevent drivers from veering off the road.

    Natural stone kerb

Natural stone kerbs are used to give roads better bases. They are mostly used to line roads that are prone to getting affected by the weather. There is a small challenge with natural stone kerbs, they are quite costly. However, if you can afford them, they offer more value than most of the other kinds of kerbs.

Factors to consider when choosing kerbs

Before you choose kerbs, there are certain factors you should consider. Here are some of them:

    Purpose

What do you want to use the kerbs for? The purpose of the kerb stones determine the kind of kerbs you will invest in. As you have seen above, there are different kinds of kerbs for different purposes. Once you figure the purpose out, your choice becomes easier.

    Style

Another factor that you must consider is the style of the kerb stones. You should ensure that the stones come in a design that accentuates that of the surrounding area. For example, if you are using them to line your driveway, they should have a similar color to your home.

    Budget

This is a very important factor that you must consider before investing in kerbs. How much can you afford to spend on these stones at the moment? While you may want to purchase cheaper kerbs, they may not save you money in the long run. Your best bet is to find a balance between your funds and quality.
